The Sounds of Silence
August 7, 2008 at 7:20 pm | In Uncategorized | Leave a CommentAfter living in a big city for such a long time, we’d kind of forgotten what it’s like to live away the hustle and bustle of the city until this past week. We’re so used to the noise of traffic, construction, etc. that it has been almost unsettling quiet here in Kentucky. It’s definitely nice to be able to hear the chirping of birds and crickets, but it’s just something we have to get used to again. There’s been a few other differences that have caught us off guard:
-It seems so dark while driving around at night. We’d gotten accustomed to bright city street lights everywhere.
-Strangers are actually friendly and will randomly chat with you on the street or at the store. Between NYC and Chicago, we’d gotten used to everyone keeping to themselves.
-Friendly customer service. I had begun to think the term “customer service” was an oxymoron, based on helpfulness of employees in Chicago and NYC. But even the people at the DMV today were super nice!
