A glimpse into our crazy life

Before & After: The fireplace room August 24, 2010

The first room we tackled on the first floor was the “fireplace room” because we can’t decide on a better name for it. We had been using it as our living room/tv room since we were avoiding those rooms carpeted in teal. It features a beautiful wood-paneled fireplace- one of the features that sold us on the house- and the windows look out onto our new patio. These before pictures from our walk-through of the house just before we bought it shows it was pretty blah, aside from the fireplace.

We went with a nice earthy green, which was originally suggested by my mom (thanks, mom! it’s still my favorite paint color out of the whole house!) and it’s the first time we used low-VOC paint. That stuff is amazing! We’ve been using Olympic’s low-VOC paint ever since and you can usually get good deals on it at Lowe’s.

Here are some after shots. The room is a little lonely now that we watch tv in a different room, but we look forward to building our first fires in it this winter with the firewood from the tree we chopped down during the backyard renovations. I have fabric to make roman shades for the windows, but haven’t gotten around to sewing them since the fabric arrived right around the time the morning sickness was setting in!

Much more homey, don’t you think? Well, that was one room down, 4 more to go!

That looks really nice, Emily!! (and Frank:) You’ve done such a nice job with your house. We are hoping to stop by and visit you again on our way to C-bus, maybe around Thanksgiving/Christmas if you’re around. Then our girls can meet each other:)
