This beautiful girl is now 4! She’s now 3 feet, 3.5 inches tall (43rd percentile), weighs 35.5 pounds (54th percentile) and is wearing mainly 4T or size 4 clothes.
Alaina loves to color and her drawing and coloring skills have really improved the past few months. Last year, she could count to 50 by herself; now, she can go past 100. She is working on learning how to write all the letters of the alphabet and knows most of it. The most amazing development is that she’s already learning how to read! She knows many sight words and is pretty good at sounding out words she doesn’t know. Our own knowledge is being put to the test as she often asks us how to spell words. I often find her reading through all of the board books in Micah’s room since there are only a few words per page. It still catches me off guard when we’ll be out running errands and she starts reading words on signs, etc.
This year, Alaina has also enjoyed learning new activities. In May and June, we took parent and child swimming lessons to help her become more comfortable in the water prior to our trip to the ocean. Earlier in the fall, she took a 5-week dance class, which introduced her to ballet and tap. She’s currently taking a gymnastics class, which was one of her birthday presents from us. It’s challenging finding experiences like this that work with our schedule (and our pocketbook!), but she really enjoys them.
Alaina loves to listen to music and dance around the house. She likes to watch a variety of shows- Super Why, Angelina Ballerina, Doc McStuffins, Jake and the Neverland Pirates, Clifford the Big Red Dog, etc. She likes to help me out in the kitchen (our specialty is blueberry muffins) so we sometimes watch The Pioneer Woman or America’s Test Kitchen together.
She’s become much more opinionated about a wide variety of things, but her clothing is definitely one of them. She loves to wear skirts and dresses, and dislikes jeans.
The greatest blessing over the past year has been to watch Alaina leap in the role of big sister. She is truly the greatest big sister! From the moment Micah was born, she has been so caring and loving towards him and is always looking out for him- from bringing him toys to singing to him to stop his crying. She loves to make him laugh, usually through some form of physical comedy like falling down. She has a hard time waking up in the morning, but if I ask “do you want to help me wake up Micah?”, she’ll pop out of bed and rush to his room. It wasn’t until a few weeks ago that I finally heard her say to Micah “go away!” when she was trying to watch a video and he kept wanting to play with her. I hope they can continue to be best buds as they grow up!
